James Earl Sanford was born October 16, 1952 to the late Tommie Lee Sanford and
Corine Daniel. Affectionately known as “Scope” James graduated from Tallassee High
School and retired from Mount Vernon Mills. He was a quiet man with a soft-spoken
voice and very few words. James was a big fisherman and loved to cook, sew and draw.
He departed from us peacefully and entered eternal rest on August 11, 2021. James is
preceded in death by one sister, Ida Sanford and one brother Louise Daniel, one great
grandchild, Aleyah Robinson, two nieces Zondra Daniel and Vicky Buckhannon.
James leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife of 51 years, Betty
Sanford, two daughters: Anitra Sanford and Sherry Griffin (Kendrick Eason) of
Tallassee, Alabama; two sons: Kelcey Sanford of Tallassee, Alabama and Kendrick
(Laquanda) Sanford of Montgomery, Alabama; three grandsons: Notorious Sanford of
Tallassee, Alabama, Jaiden Harrison and Kendrick Sanford, Jr., of Montgomery,
Alabama, one great-granddaughter, Camille Amora Sanford; two God grandchildren:
Taymika (Henry) Pough of Athens, Alabama, Nikki Fergerson of Montgomery, Alabama;
seven God great grandchildren: Jaylina, Jayshon, Dyllon, Caleb, De’manion, Karen and
Trey; six step children: Emily Williams, Bonita Kennebrew, Tara Brown, Tracey Ferguson,
Daphene Stokes and Kim Parker of Tallassee, Alabama; four brothers: Willie Sanford of
Montgomery, Alabama, Gerald (Sarah) Sanford of Montgomery, Alabama, Jimmy
(Johnnie) Sanford of Atlanta, Georgia and Tommie Sanford of Tallassee, Alabama; Four
sisters-in-law: Mary Williams of Tallassee, Alabama, Elizabeth (George) Hooks of
Tallassee, Alabama, Izay Mae (Donald) Gulley of Clearwater, Florida, Larry Brown of
Tallassee, Alabama and Betty Burell of New York and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins
and friends that loved him dearly.
